Frequently Asked Questions

Massage Therapy

How long do the results of a massage last?
Results from a massage last only as long as you’ll let them. Improper ergonomics, poor stress management and dehydration will shorten the life of that amazing feeling you have after receiving a massage. Our favorite clients to work with are people who are willing to learn about their health outside of the massage room. Bodywork is a team effort!
Do I have to get naked!?
Of course not! But we do recommend it. Some of our therapists are trained in massage techniques that can be performed while fully clothed. If you’re not comfortable getting undressed, be sure to mention it when you call and we’ll set you up with a massage therapist who would be a good fit. For our intuitive massage sessions though, we recommend taking off as much as you feel comfortable. Clothing interferes with the flow of the strokes and blocks access to muscles and their attachment sites that oftentimes are the source of tension. Your modesty will be respected throughout the entire session. You will be covered with a sheet and blanket, and the therapist will undrape the area that he or she is working on. Know that you are coming into a professional setting… we never want to make you feel uncomfortable!
Should I talk during my session?
Some people feel more comfortable chatting with their therapist while others are already asleep before the treatment begins! Your job isn’t to entertain your therapist… their job is to help you relax and feel fabulous! We welcome you to close your eyes, focus on your breathing and pay attention to what your body is telling you during the session. Make sure to let your therapist know immediately if they do something that is uncomfortable. We’re intuitive… not psychic!
Doesn't deep tissue massage have to hurt?
Absolutely not! Trying to accomplish too much in such little time is generally what makes deep tissue painful. It is important to allow there therapist time to work the tissue layer by layer. That being said, more pressure isn’t always better. By using our intuition, we only use as much pressure as your body responds to. You may feel like you just worked out, but we’ll never leave you feeling bruised and battered. Some techniques do evoke a sort of “hurts so good” feeling, but it should never be uncomfortably painful.
How often should I receive a massage?
You can overtreat, but you cannot over massage! Massage helps people battle depression, relieve back pain, migraines and insomnia. It cuts the level of stress hormones in your body in half. Massage promotes tissue regeneration, helps strengthen muscles, increases flexibility and improves your immune system. Unlike many prescription drugs, there are no major side effects to receiving massage. Massage should be part of everybody’s preventative care routine. We recommend coming in as often as a few times a week to at least once a month.
What kind of massage should I get?
Every body is unique. Your preferences, lifestyle and goals all influence the style of massage your body craves. At SLOCO Massage & Wellness Spa, we offer Intuitive Massage, which allows the therapist to use their expertise to determine what style (or styles) of massage best suit you.
Is the Wellness Program the same as the Wellness Rewards?
Our Wellness Program is a spa membership designed for people who are looking to commit to regular massage. Members save $15-20 on each massage and receive exclusive offers and discounts on other services.

If monthly payments aren’t your cup of tea, you can take advantage of our Wellness Points Program. All clients automatically start earning points by pre-booking, referring friends and by creating new healthy habits inspired by our wellness spa boutique!

Spa Facilities & Etiquette

Am I supposed to tip?
Gratuity is always appreciated! In the spa industry, a gratuity of 15-20% based on the full value of the service is recommended if you had a fabulous experience. You can always show your appreciation with online reviews and word of mouth referrals.
Do you allow day use of the facilities?
Our mission is to provide quality, affordable alternative therapies that people can incorporate in their daily wellness routines. Unfortunately, adding facilities like whirlpools, saunas and showers increase the cost of doing business, which in turn would be reflected in our treatment prices. All that being said, we opted to focus on quality treatments, not the fluffy robes and slippers, which is why our prices are so low compared to other spas.
What is the spa's cancellation policy?
No shows and cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be billed for the full amount. Please note that a credit card will be required to hold your reservation, however your card will not be charged unless you do not honor our policies. Your honesty, consideration and respect are greatly appreciated by our staff.

Be sure to arrive about 10 minutes early to your appointment. If you are late to your appointment, the amount of time you are late will come out of the time you have on the table.

How long will it take for my hair to grow back?

Everyone’s hair regrowth cycle is different and unique to them. Some clients won’t have to come back for 6 weeks, whereas others may need to come in every 3 weeks or so. We recommend coming in every 3-5 weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows.

How long should hair grow out before getting waxed?

Let the hair grow out for at least seven days after shaving. Although some of you avid shavers may be resistant to this, it is essential to do this in order to get the most from your waxing experience.

Can I get waxed during that "time of the month"?

Yes, but just know that your skin may be more sensitive 3 days before and 3 days after your cycle. We just ask that you wear a fresh tampon, and know that there could be a little extra sting during that time of the month.
