Going back to chemistry, you’ll remember that water is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. When the molecule loses a hydrogen atom, the remaining OH molecule takes on a negative charge. How often is it recommended to use the IonCleanse® foot bath?

IonCleanse® session frequency varies with age. Generally speaking, people under the age of 50 can use the foot bath every other day or three times per week. For people over 50 we recommend using the foot bath every third day or roughly twice per week. Typical sessions are 25 minutes; however, you can always cut back on session time given various circumstances. E.g. young children, animals, and people who may be in a weakened condition.

How does it work?

The IonCleanse® system is based on the somewhat complicated action of electrolysis. A typical IonCleanse® footbath is 30 minutes. The array is placed into about 3 inches of warm water in a foot tub and a small amount of salt is added. The person’s feet are then placed into the water and the control unit is turned on. A small direct current is delivered through the array’s metal plates into the water which generates positively and negatively charged ions. These ions neutralize charged particles in the person’s body. By neutralizing toxins in the body, the IonCleanse® session creates an environment whereby heavy metals and other toxins can exit the body safely. Some of the toxins will exit the body via the feet (which have the largest pores in the human body) into the foot tub, while other toxins will exit the body through sweat, urine, and other natural body functions.

What is the chemistry behind it all?

Water exists as a chemically neutral molecule of two hydrogen atoms combined with one oxygen atom. However, water in its natural state also self-ionizes in small amounts all of the time, breaking apart into H+ and OH- ions and then recombining to the neutral H2O.

When an array is placed in the water of a footbath and a direct current is passed through its poles, ionization is magnified many times.

With the IonCleanse® dual polarity array electrical flow alternates between the positive and negative poles of the array. When current flows to the positive pole, water breaks down into an abundance of OH- ions according to the formula: 4H2O + 4 e- (electrons) —> 2 H, + 4 OH-.

When the current flows to the negative pole, water breaks down into an abundance of hydrogen ions according to the formula: 2H2O —> O2 + 4 H+ + 4e-.

Negative ions attract positively charged atoms and molecules and positive ions attract negatively charged atoms and molecules.

Doesn't the water change color even if someone doesn't have their feet in the water?

Absolutely! Approximately 30% of the change in color will be there whether or not your feet are in the bath. It’s a normal oxidation reaction between, water, metal and electricity. When you add a persons feet to the water, you’re really adding more water (70% of the body is water) and another electromagnetic system, causing the other 70% of the change in the water.
