In this hour long class, SLOCO’s very own Sati Powell will weave her studies in movement, pregnancy, and bodywork together as a garland of tools to help women prepare for birth. While birth is an inherently natural biological process that we have been successfully navigating without aid for hundreds of thousands of years, our daily movement habits have become adapted to modern lifestyles often leaving our bodies underprepared for natural birth. This class will give women gentle daily practices that help to tone and relax the body, untuck the pelvis, and increase “delivery space”. We will talk about how to optimize and update the classic kegel exercise based on more recent understanding of functional pelvic floor anatomy and also talk about the hormone relaxin and joint laxity in pregnancy. We will also explore the deeper benefits of pregnancy massage, and learn a daily self-massage routine…
Finally, we will touch on pregnancy-safe nutritive herbs that help to tone the uterus, increase mineralization, and enhance our “inner strength”.
